Day 1

Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga

On the first day of your Fez desert tour, you will go to the desert of Merzouga. Arrival in Merzouga is planned in the evening. 

You start your Fez desert trip in the morning, at about 9 AM. First, you go towards Ifrane, a city located in the Middle Atlas.

Then you continue to Azrou surrounded by green and hilly landscapes. The largest cedar forest in Morocco is close to Azrou. You enjoy nice landscapes. Your Morocco desert trip continues. Direction Midelt, a city located at 1 521 m of altitude which is between the chains of the Middle Atlas and the Eastern High Atlas. The Atlas landscapes are really amazing as that changing during your Fez trip. 

You arrive in the Valley of Ziz in the Eastern High Atlas. In the Ziz Valley, enjoy the beautiful palm groves!

You will continue towards Erfoud, a city located in a large oasis near the desert. You will take the direction north of Erfoud to reach Rissani. At your arrival at Merzouga, you will do a camel ride for an hour. Sunset on the dunes. Dinner and overnight in a Merzouga desert camp.

Day 2

Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley – Gorges of Dades

If you get up in time, you can enjoy also the sunrise in the Sahara desert… you will keep an unforgettable memory!

Your Fez desert tour continues. Enjoy breakfast in the camp. You will then head back to the Todra Gorges located in the High Atlas. The walls of the gorge reach for some up to 300 m! You will have lunch in Todra Gorge in front of exceptional view!

The Todra Gorges are appreciated by those who like climbing! 

You will then pass by the cities of Tinghir and Tinejdad.

You cross the Todra Valley and you can walk along the river before continuing your trip by car. You will also visit the Dades Valley and the Gorges of Dades. Enjoy beautiful landscapes!  After the visit, dinner, and overnight in a hotel.

Day 3

Dades Valley – Valley of the Roses – Oasis of Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – the Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

On the program of the 3rd day of your Morocco desert tour from Fez :

  • you cross the Rose Valley before arriving at the Oasis of Skoura,
  • arrival in Ouarzazate and visit of the movie studios,
  • visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

After visiting the kasbah, the road continues through the Tizi n’Tichka pass in the Atlas. The “pasture pass” is located on the path between Ouarzazate and Marrakech and is at an altitude of 2,260 m in the mountains. Arrival late afternoon in Marrakech. End of your Morocco desert tour from Fez.

Some more information about the places you will visit during your Fez desert trip:

  • Azrou is a town about 90 km from Fès and 1,200 m above sea level.
  • Ziz is a river in South Morocco. Wadi Ziz is 280 km long.
  • Every year, Erfoud becomes the “Capital of the Date” in the fall (in October).
  • Rissani is worth visiting for its many ksars (Ksar El Fida, ksar Abber, Ksar Ouighlan …). The city is the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty.
  • The Oasis of Skoura is a palm grove of about 25 km² located only 40 km from Ouarzazate. In the Oasis, you will discover the many kasbahs in the palm grove inhabited by people living mainly from agriculture.
