Learn more about the saffron valley in Morocco

Saffron is grown in the Mediterranean basin and in Morocco.

This spice is mainly produced in the Taliouine region, although there is also produced in the Ourika valley, not far from Marrakech.

Saffron picking is done before sunrise. Each flower contains only three pistils, which makes it necessary a very large number of flowers arrive at 1 kg of saffron.

The families own parcels with saffron which they cultivate with other crops (wheat, barley …). The flavor of saffron is different depending on the production.

On the side of the saffron valley rises Mount Sirwa. We are in the province of Taroudant. Taliouine is 300 km from Marrakech and the village is 1,200 meters above sea level.
